The obstetric open and semi-open system is a collaborative model in which hospital facilities and staff are made available (“open”) to physicians from local clinics, allowing shared use of hospital resources.
Under this system, prenatal checkups are conducted at nearby clinics, while delivery takes place at a hospital or perinatal center. This approach helps ensure both the safety of childbirth and convenience for expectant mothers, while enabling each medical institution to contribute according to its strengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In December 2003, the “Emergency Appeal on Medical Accident Prevention” issued by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare proposed this system as a new initiative for improving medical safety. From fiscal year 2005, a three-year “Obstetric Open Hospital Model Project” was carried out as a Tokyo Metropolitan Government initiative.
Currently, approximately 20% of annual deliveries are conducted under the open or semi-open system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong>Prenatal checkups are conducted at a registered clinic, and care continues at the clinic until labor begins. At the time of delivery, the patient is admitted to Aiiku Hospital, and the physician from the registered clinic comes to Aiiku Hospital to manage the delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>Prenatal checkups are conducted at a registered clinic. From around 34-36 weeks of pregnancy onward, checkups are conducted at Aiiku Hospital. At the time of delivery, the patient is admitted to Aiiku Hospital, where the hospital’s physicians manage the delivery.
