"Comprehensive Breast Care: From Early Detection to Post-Surgical Treatment Support by Specialists"

Our Breast Surgery Department provides outpatient services in coordination with obstetrics and gynecology, including breast screenings for pregnant women, surgical interventions for lactating mothers, and breast cancer screenings. Board-certified breast specialists from designated cancer treatment centers are available on specific days to provide comprehensive care, from detailed post-screening examinations to post-surgical hormone therapy. For breast cancer surgery and chemotherapy, we will coordinate referrals to appropriate cancer treatment centers.

  • Prenatal Breast Screening

Breast cancer incidence among Japanese women begins increasing from the 30s, with breast cancer being the most common cancer (22%) among women aged 30–39. While breast screening is crucial during this period, pregnancy, childbirth, and lactation can make timing difficult, potentially delaying detection. We offer prenatal breast screenings for women under 16 weeks of pregnancy who haven’t had recent screenings or have a family history of breast cancer. For detailed information about examinations and fees, please refer to the file below.

  • Surgical Management of Mastitis

Most cases of mastitis during lactation are “stasis mastitis,” caused by milk retention in the ducts, which can be managed through lactation guidance from midwives. However, if infection develops, it can progress to “suppurative mastitis,” characterized by severe breast redness, pain, and fever, requiring surgical drainage. Please consult your regular obstetrician or midwife first; if breast surgery consultation is deemed necessary, visit our outpatient clinic.

  • Post-Screening Detailed Examination and Breast Biopsy

Breast cancer screening aims for early detection through imaging studies such as mammography and ultrasound in asymptomatic individuals. If further evaluation is needed after screening, a tissue biopsy may be performed to collect a sample from the affected area. We may perform ultrasound-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy for definitive diagnosis, depending on the findings.

  • Post-Breast Cancer Surgery Hormone Therapy and Follow-up

Breast cancer hormone therapy typically continues for 5–10 years, with follow-up monitoring needed for about 10 years post-surgery. We provide ongoing hormone therapy and regular follow-up examinations for patients whose treatment at cancer centers has stabilized. Please bring a patient referral document from your current treating hospital. Using the “Tokyo Medical Coordination Notebook” (東京都医療連携手帳) facilitates information sharing between medical facilities, ensuring appropriate care.
