"Implementing Infection Control for the Safety of All Patients and Staff"

In line with Aiiku Hospital's mission to "provide high-quality healthcare for the happiness of mothers and children and support safe, comfortable pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing," we consider infection control a top priority. Our Infection Control Team (ICT) works across departments to quickly identify, contain, and resolve infectious disease occurrences.
-
Surveillance
To prevent healthcare-associated infections, we monitor and analyze the occurrence of hospital-acquired infections, antibiotic-resistant bacteria isolation rates, and infections caused by resistant organisms. This surveillance enables early risk detection, prompt response, root cause analysis, improvement measures, and outbreak prevention.
-
Hospital Rounds
Weekly rounds are conducted by a multidisciplinary team including physicians (ICD), nurses (ICN), pharmacists, and clinical laboratory technicians. Based on surveillance results, we perform environmental, antimicrobial resistance, antibiotic usage, and case review rounds to monitor and guide infection control implementation.
-
Infection Control Education
We conduct biannual training sessions for all staff to ensure thorough understanding of basic infection control principles and specific preventive measures. These sessions enhance individual awareness of hospital infections and improve both technical skills and team collaboration.
-
Infection Control Manual Management
Evidence-based infection prevention practices evolve constantly. We regularly update our manuals to reflect new evidence and guidelines. Compliance with updated protocols is monitored through “Link Nurse” meetings and ICT rounds, accompanied by educational initiatives.
-
Infection-Related Investigations and Consultation
We provide guidance and intervention (appropriate patient placement, transmission-based precautions) when antibiotic-resistant organisms are detected or surgical site infections occur. We respond promptly to outbreak situations and monitor antibiotic usage patterns to promote appropriate antimicrobial stewardship.
-
Occupational Infection Prevention
We implement the following staff protection measures:
– Pre-employment viral antibody screening and vaccination
– Needlestick injury and mucocutaneous exposure prevention
– Influenza vaccination
– Hepatitis B antibody testing and vaccination
– Safety equipment implementation and training
-
Inter-facility Collaboration
We maintain Infection Control Enhancement Rating 2 and collaborate with neighboring facilities on infection control measures.
-
Hospital Infection Control Guidelines
We have established comprehensive infection control guidelines for Aiiku Hospital Comprehensive Maternal and Child Health Center, available in PDF format.
